Fighting Fleas
Flea control
OFS Services is specialized in fast flea control. In almost all cases we can be on-site within 24 hours, and sometimes we can even come by the same day with our emergency flea control service.
Why fleas are so hard to get rid of yourself
Many people try to handle it themselves first: a flea collar for the pet, a spray from the drugstore, or a product from the pet shop. In most cases this helps temporarily, but the infestation comes back.
The reason for that is simple: of all the fleas present, only about five percent are on your pet. The rest are in your home. In carpets, in cracks in the floor, in your pets’ bedding, in the seams of your sofa. Eggs, larvae, and pupae survive for months in this environment. A product that only kills adult fleas doesn’t solve the problem.
What customers often tell us afterwards: they spent weeks trying to fix it themselves and hundreds of euros on products that didn’t solve the problem. In the end, one professional treatment was faster and cheaper.

How OFS Services controls fleas
At OFS Services, we use an approach that targets every stage of the flea life cycle. Not just the fleas you can see, but also the eggs, larvae, and pupae you can’t. That’s what sets us apart from most DIY products.
The technician first maps out all the spots where fleas are living and breeding. Based on that, we determine which products to use where. We treat floors, carpets, pet sleeping areas, furniture, and other spots where fleas hide.
In almost all cases, one treatment is enough. That’s not a coincidence. It’s because we work thoroughly and don’t skip a single stage of the flea life cycle. In and around Eindhoven, we’re usually with you within 24 hours. Sometimes even the same day is possible through our emergency service.
The lifecycle of fleas: what you need to know
Fleas are parasitic insects that feed on blood. They need a host, but they spend most of their life away from that host. Most people think fleas only live on pets, but fleas live throughout your entire home environment.
An adult flea lays up to fifty eggs a day. Those eggs fall off your pet and end up all over the house. The eggs hatch into larvae that burrow into carpets, rugs, and cracks. The larvae pupate and can survive for months in that stage. Vibration, warmth, and carbon dioxide trigger the pupa, after which a new adult flea emerges.
This is exactly why a vacant home can be full of fleas again upon return. The pupae simply waited until there was movement and warmth again.
Health risks of a flea infestation
Fleas aren’t just annoying, they can also pose health risks. Flea bites cause itching and irritation. In people and animals who are sensitive to them, this can lead to allergic reactions and skin problems.
Fleas can also transmit tapeworm to pets, and in rare cases to humans as well. Young or weakened pets can even develop anaemia from blood loss during a severe infestation.
There’s also a psychological toll to an infestation. Customers regularly tell us they could no longer sit comfortably on the sofa or slept poorly. The feeling of seeing something move stays with you, even when nothing is there anymore. Acting quickly isn’t just practical, it’s also necessary for your own peace of mind.
“Professional service, Kevin clearly has a lot of experience, keeps his appointments, and is pleasant to deal with. Highly recommended.”
“In one word: GREAT! For pest problems, the help of these professionals is highly recommended. Thanks, OFS Services!”
Frequently asked questions about flea control
Yes, that’s necessary. OFS Services treats your home, but your pet also needs to be made flea-free. Otherwise, fleas can reinfest the home through your pet. Consult your vet for the right product. In practice, a combination of the home treatment and a product on the pet is most effective.
After treatment, you’ll see a sharp drop in the number of fleas within a few days. You may still spot the occasional flea during the first week. These are fleas emerging from the pupal stage after treatment, which then still come into contact with the residual effect of the products. In almost all cases, the infestation is fully under control after a single treatment.
The products OFS Services uses are professional-grade and approved. After the treatment, it’s important to ventilate the space for a while and wait a certain amount of time before children and pets come back in. The technician will tell you exactly how long that takes and what to do afterward. That way you know exactly where you stand.
