Holes or damage to your wood furniture and structures from woodworms? Nothing is more irritating than woodworm attacking your wood leading to structural damage and weakening of the wood. But how can you be sure you are dealing with woodworms? Read below on how to recognize woodworm.
How do I recognize woodworms?
Woodworms can cause significant damage. It is important to know how to recognize a woodworm infestation so that you can take timely action. To determine if you are suffering from woodworm, you can check the following signs to see if you recognize them and thus protect your wooden property.
One of the most obvious signs of a woodworm infestation are small, round exit holes in the wood. These holes, usually 1-2 mm in diameter, are the exits the woodworms make when they leave the wood as adult beetles.
Around the exit openings, you can often find wood dust or borer meal. This is a fine, powdery material created when woodworms drill through the wood.
A woodworm infestation can result in a weakened or crumbling wood structure. If you notice the wood breaking or crumbling easily, this may indicate the presence of woodworms.
Woodworms can discolor the wood by the presence of fungi and bacteria. Watch for unusual discoloration or changes in the wood surface.

Woodworms
Lifestyle
Woodworms are larvae of several species of beetles that live in wood. They feed on wood fibers and dig burrows, causing damage. Woodworm larvae develop in wood for several years before pupating and flying out as adult beetles.
Propagation
Adult woodworm beetles lay eggs in cracks and crevices of wood. From these eggs, larvae hatch and bore into the wood. After several years, the larvae pupate and emerge as adult beetles, after which the cycle begins again.
