Wasps are not only very irritating, they can sting us and pose a threat to people who are allergic to them. But how do I recognize a wasp infestation? Read below on how to recognize them.
Recognizing a wasp infestation
How do I know there is a wasp nest at my place?
By looking at the approach route of wasps, you can figure out where the wasp nest is hidden. You often find a wasp nest in sheltered places such as in the attic, in a cavity wall or under eaves. As the end of summer approaches, it becomes easier to find a nest since that’s when many wasps live in the nest. You can recognize the nest by its papery beige-brown walls.Difference between wasps and bees
Although bees and wasps are very similar, they also have their own distinguishing characteristics. For example, bees have a hairy upper part while a wasp is virtually bald. Bees can only sting once, leaving their sting in your skin. Wasps, on the other hand, leave no sting and can sting up to 10 times. They can become very aggressive, unlike bees which are not aggressively inclined. A wasp has a wasp waist and a bright yellow and black color. Bees, on the other hand, are colored less bright yellow and do not have a wasp waist.
Do you recognize these signs?
Then chances are you are suffering from a wasp infestation. Fighting a wasp nest yourself seems like a quick solution but can be very dangerous. When wasps feel threatened they become aggressive, which can have unpleasant consequences. Protective clothing is necessary to fight the wasps risk-free. It is advisable to leave the control to a professional pest controller.

Lifestyle
Wasps often live with each other in groups in sheltered places. In spring, the queen lays the nest. As summer approaches, more and more wasps live in the nest. A fully grown nest consists of 5,000-7,000 individuals. They live on nectar, honeydew and pollen, among other things, but also on liquid drinks, food or other flying insects. The lifespan is only one season, making winter stockpiling unnecessary.

Removing the wasp nest yourself seems like a quick solution, but it can be very dangerous. Also, sealing the exit of a wasp nest usually has unpleasant consequences. For example, wasps often become aggressive when they find a new exit. It is therefore recommended to have a wasp nest controlled by a professional pest controller .
